Pattaya is a popular resort town in Thailand where visitors from far and wide go to enjoy Thai culture in the comfort of a resort setting. The area is infamous for its booming sex trade and industry but visitors will not be confronted by this unless they go looking for it. One positive offshoot of this has been the amazing go-go bars which one can visit upon their travels but if you are looking for more family-friendly fun you will see that there is no shortage of entertaining options. The area started off as a recreational centre for American soldiers during the war between the United States and Vietnam and has since taken shape as a destination which is easily accessible to travellers.
The beautiful thing about Pattaya is that it has a tropical climate which means that it is warm and sometimes humid all year round. You may however, want to avoid the rainy season which normally starts about a week into June and ends at the beginning of November. You will find that whilst the rain doesn't last long, you don't know when it is going to strike which means you could often get caught off-guard while you are on your trip although it won't be unpleasant because of the warmth. The summer heat can be unbearable for those who aren't used to experiencing such high temperatures. Luckily, the best time to go is over the festive holiday season at the end of the year up until February. You may still experience some rain but it won't be often.
There are a variety of ways to get around Pattaya. You could use Baht Buses in order to reach your destination. These are reasonably priced and run regularly. Pick-up trucks are sometimes used as buses or taxis also. You also have the option of going by motorsai (motorbike) although you may want to consider your safety when doing this as they are sometimes overloaded and driven recklessly. If all else fails, you always have the option of renting a vehicle and driving around yourself but it may be difficult for you to adjust to the crazy Thai driving.
If you make it to Pattaya, you will not regret it as there are many attractions and activities to take part in when you are there. You can go to Underwater World - an aquarium which hosts and showcases indigenous marine life. The Siriphon Orchid Farm can be found in Noen Phlap Wan Road and is a beautiful place to view the orchid (an iconic Thai symbol) in its full glory. If you are into live entertainment and magic, you will love Open Eyes where they showcase local magicians and their illusions.
There are a variety of options for accommodation in Pattaya depending on what you are looking to take from your holiday. If you are very budget conscious, you will find that there are surprisingly affordable hotels for you to stay in although you may sometimes compromise on the quality of your holiday. You could try staying at the Royal Beach View Hotel in Nongprue Banglamung, Pattaya. This is a modern style hotel with some major perks like incredible ocean views and luxury suites. The dD2 also has a good reputation with tourists and is highly spoken of. This award-winning hotel boasts a stylish stay in absolute opulence for around $500.
Pattaya is a great place to spend a few days relaxing by the beach and enjoying some water sports. It is larger than many of the coastal resorts in Thailand and being so close to Bangkok it is very easy to visit for a day trip if you don't want to stay for long. Pattaya is also a great place to spend a night if you are thinking about visiting the nearby island of Koh Larn for a few days.
