Overview

Niagara Falls, Ontario is nicknamed the "Honeymoon Capital of the World." It is a small city with less than 100,000 people, but has nearly as many tourists, especially in the summer months. Niagara Falls is a short drive from downtown Toronto, located directly across from Buffalo, NY. The Canadian side of the Falls is arguably the more picturesque.

The city resides a stone's throw away from the spectacular Niagara Falls, where you can see both the American side of the Falls and the Canadian Horseshoe Falls. Pippi Longstocking, the Swedish children's character, famously went down Niagara Falls in a barrel, though this is highly illegal and not recommended! It's much better to visit Niagara Falls for your honeymoon, where you can find plenty of less dangerous things to do.

The Maid of the Mist is a popular boat ride to the base of the Falls, where you can feel the force of the water crashing down in front of you and experience the awe-inspiring beauty. It's common to see engagements taking place on the Maid of the Mist, as it's a romantic – if very wet – tour. The tour operators provide their guests with waterproof ponchos, to keep you dry. There is also opportunity to Journey Behind the Falls, where you can follow guided pathways to stand behind the majestic Falls. At nighttime, the water is lit from behind with a spectacular rainbow of colours, and there are weekly fireworks as well.

Things to do and tourist attractions in Niagara Falls are plenty. There is a tourist promenade, with wax museums, arcades, haunted houses and popular restaurants like the Hard Rock Café and Planet Hollywood. Niagara Falls embraces the kitsch-factor that it is famous for, and leaves nothing to be desired. There are also Marineland, an aquatic theme park, and two major casinos, giving the city an Atlantic City feel with a distinctly Canadian spin.

Skylon Tower in Niagara Falls has a revolving restaurant with beautiful views of the Falls and excellent meals. It is a wonderful place to view the nightly illumination of the Falls while you enjoy a glass of wine and a tasty dinner.
